  • The Colombian national team is going through an incredible phase under Néstor Lorenzo going into the start of the 48th edition.
  • Group D will round out the day with Brazil versus Costa Rica.

The CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ first round of group stage games is coming to an end: Colombia and Paraguay take the field this Monday, 24, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The first match of Group D of this edition kicks off at 5 pm local time (GMT-5) – 5 pm in Bogota, 6 pm in Asunción.

The positive momentum has Colombians excited about what they can achieve in the United States: the Cafeteros arrive at this 48th edition with an unbeaten streak of 22 matches – 18 of them under coach Néstor Lorenzo, who has led the team since 2022. The last few matches prove this optimism, including a 3-0 win over Bolivia and an impressive 5-1 against the host team of this CONMEBOL Copa América™. In the World Cup Qualifiers, Colombia has 3 wins in 6 rounds already played and sit in 3rd place.

In Paraguay, the word of the day is 'reconstruction' under commander Daniel Garnero, who took charge of the national team last year. The new boss expects La Albirroja to gain experience in the tournament and evolve based on young talents, among them Ramón Sosa, Julio Enciso and Damián Bobadilla, all of whom have experience in club football outside of their home country. These the main names that the hopes for a good performance in the United States are placed, as well as an important resumption during the Qualifiers: with 5 points in 6 rounds, the Paraguayans occupy 7th place which would be enough to qualify for the play-offs to then qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
