  • The Argentinian triumphed in Paraguay managing Sol de América, Guaraní, Olimpia and Libertad.
  • The Paraguayan National team is in Group D, along with Brazil, Colombia and Costa Rica.

Daniel Garnero has had a long career on and off the field and he hopes to excite the Paraguayan public with a great CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™. The Argentine is already recognized for his achievements at club level and now wants to lead the national team to continue growing.

As a player, Garnero came through the youth ranks of Independiente and was the midfielder who inherited the number 10 jersey from Ricardo Bochini, a legend of Argentine and South American football. Like "Bocha", Garnero also triumphed in Avellaneda: in the first half of the 1990s, he won an Argentine Clausura title, a CONMEBOL Recopa Sudamericana and two South American Super Cups. He also played for Universidad Católica (Chile) and Toros Neza (Mexico), as well as two other stints at Rey de Copas, where he retired in 2001.

Between 2002 and 2007, the Argentine gained experience as an assistant coach on the coaching staffs of Arsenal de Sarandí, Estudiantes and Independiente before receiving his first opportunity as head coach at Arsenal (Argentina) in 2008, replacing Gustavo Alfaro, another manager during this CONMEBOL Copa América™. The start was very promising as, in his first match, Garnero led the Sarandí team to the Suruga Bank Cup title. In 2010, he took over his beloved Independiente for a short period.

That same year, Garnero took charge of San Martín de San Juan, leading the club back to the first division of national football, and remained there for three years. He managed Banfield, then back to San Martín and Independiente Rivadavia, all in Argentina's second division, before accepting the proposal of Paraguay's Sol de América.

It is here in Paraguayan football where the Argentine has achieved great results since 2015, first for the Blue Dragons and then for Guarani (2016 to 2017), Olimpia (2018 to 2020) and Libertad (2021 to 2023). Daniel Garnero has racked up titles over the years, including five Apertura tournaments and three Clausura tournaments, becoming one of the most successful coaches in the history of Paraguayan football. In CONMEBOL Libertadores, under his command, Guarani and Olimpia reached the round of 16 while with Libertad he reached the semifinals of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana in 2021.

With hissuccesses achieved in the country, the APF offered Garnero to be the coach of the senior team in September 2023. Little by little, the new coach has incorporating new faces into the team and has already achieved some interesting results in the South American Qualifiers for the next World Cup, such as the victory over Bolivia and the draw against Chile. After six rounds, La Albirroja is in seventh place overall, which is giving them a place in the playoffs for a place in the 2026 World Cup.

During the CONMEBOL Copa America™, Daniel Garnero and Paraguay are ready to usher in a new era for the Albirroja national team, and what better occasion than in the oldest national team tournament in the world.
