Luis Suárez entered at halftime in the Canada-Uruguay match and was decisive: he scored the equalizing goal (2-2) in stoppage time and then converted his penalty in the shootout. He was named the Superior Player of the Match Michelob ULTRA.


The hero's moment came at the 92nd minute, following a good play by Jose María Giménez on the right and a cross that Suárez struck with his left foot into the Canadian goal to equalize.


In the penalty shootout, Lucho took the fourth shot and scored to make it 4-2. Then Davies missed, sealing the result.

At 37, the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ could have been the last for "El Pistolero". He played 19 matches and scored 8 goals over four editions (2011, 2019, 2021, and 2024). Only three other Uruguayans have achieved this previously: Roberto Porta (4 editions), Angel Romano (5 editions), and Héctor Scarone (5 editions).


In 2011, Suárez won the CONMEBOL Copa América™. He scored a goal in the Final and was named the Best Player of the Tournament.
