Women’s football in Paraguay is experiencing a wave of optimism. With recent success at all levels — including a historic South American U-17 title — La Albirroja is ready to dream big at the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™, in Ecuador.


Fábio Fukumoto, former U-20 head coach, was chosen to lead a new generation to the next level. Talents like Fátima Acosta and Claudia Martínez give fans plenty of reasons to be excited.

Coach


Fabio Fukumoto, Paraguay

A Brazilian native, Fábio Fukumoto is known for developing young female talent. He worked as assistant, coach, and youth coordinator at clubs like Ferroviária, AF Manthiqueira, and Qionzhong FC (China) before taking over Paraguay’s U-20 team in 2023.


He led them at the U-20 Women’s World Cup and finished as runner-up at the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina U-20. In February 2025, at just 36 years old, he was appointed as head coach of the senior national team.

In preparation for the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina™, Paraguay played four friendlies in 2025: two against Uruguay in February (1-2 and 0-1), and two against Ecuador between May and June (0-0 and 2-0).
