  • The North American team defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in the playoff.
  • They will share Group A with Argentina, Peru, and Chile.

Canada made history this Saturday, March 23, at the Toyota Stadium in Texas by defeating Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 with goals from Cyle Larin and Jacob Shaffelburg. They qualified for the CONMEBOL Copa America United States 2024™, a tournament with 47 editions but one that the North American team had never competed in before.

Les Rouges, who returned to play a FIFA World Cup in 2022 after more than 30 years, will have the honor of being the only debutant in this edition of the 16-team CONMEBOL Copa America™.

Their debut in the tournament will be in the opening match against Argentina on June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Then, they will play against Peru at the Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas on June 25. On June 29, they will close the group stage when they face Chile at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando.

Canada becomes the 10th team outside of CONMEBOL to compete in this tournament with over 100 years of history. The previous ones were: Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Japan, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Haiti, and Qatar.
