The beaches of Iquique (Chile) will host the first CONMEBOL Copa América™ of 2025 over the course of 8 days. With just 30 days to go until the tournament begins, here’s everything you need to know about it.
How Are the Groups Structured?
Group A includes Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Meanwhile, Group B will feature Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela.
A Group Stage will be played, where each team will play four matches. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the Semifinals, while those finishing third to fifth will play an additional match in the Final Stage to determine positions 5th through 10th.
Who Qualifies for the World Cup?
The top three teams in the CONMEBOL Copa América Fútbol Playa 2025™ will earn a place in the Seychelles World Cup, scheduled to be held from May 1 to May 11 in Victoria, Mahé Island.
Who Won the Last Tournament?
Brazil were the champions in 2023, in the edition held in Rosario (Argentina). They defeated the host nation in the final with a score of 13-5.
How Is Beach Soccer Played?
Each team consists of 12 players (2 goalkeepers). Matches are played with 5 players on the field and 7 substitutes.
Matches are divided into 3 periods of 12 minutes, with three-minute intervals between each period.
If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, a 3-minute extra time is played.
If the tie persists, the winner is decided by penalties: an initial round of 5 penalties per team, followed by a one-by-one sudden death if needed.
Points System:
- A win in regulation time earns 3 points.
- A win in extra time earns 2 points.
- A win via penalty shootout earns 1 point.
- No points are awarded for a loss, regardless of the method.
