In the 84th minute, Ángel Di Maria managed to wrest the ball from an Ecuadorian defender and left it to Messi, who then provided the assist for Lautaro to firmly slot it into the net with his right leg in front of the opposing goalkeeper.

In the semifinals, Argentina went up against Colombia in a match that concluded with a 1-1 draw, leading to a penalty shootout. The Argentine goal was converted by Martínez in the 7th minute, following yet another assist by Lionel Messi. The setup left ‘El Toro’ positioned just behind the penalty spot, with the perfect opportunity to overcome Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina and score his last goal in the competition.

Argentina emerged victorious 3-2 in the historic shootout, with goalkeeper Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez shining as the deciding factor. Lautaro netted the final penalty kick for the Argentines, just before ‘Dibu’ made the crucial save that secured Albiceleste’s spot in the final against Brazil.

In a dream final, Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 at the Maracanã Stadium, with Ángel Di Maria scoring the decisive goal. This victory crowned them champions of the CONMEBOL Copa America™️, ending a 28-year title drought.
