Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz, better known as the ‘Pistolero’ (gunfighter), was born on January 24, 1987, in Salto, Uruguay. He is part of a huge football fan family, where four of his six brothers are professional football players. The Uruguayan forward grew up in a neighborhood called Cerro and, like most children of that age, was fond of the world of football.

On February 7, 2007, the athlete played, for the first time, in the Uruguay national team. It was in a friendly match, against the Colombia national team, in Cucuta, where he wore the number 10 shirt.

It took a while for Suarez to score his first goal; it was eight months later, in a match during the playoffs, against Bolivia national team. From then on, Luis became a scoring machine for his team.

He has been part of Uruguay team’s lineup for 13 years. In 2013, he became the top scorer, after beating his teammate, Diego Forlan. He is currently in the same place, with 59 goals made. In the 2011 CONMEBOL Copa America, he won his only title, up to now, with the national team. He is also the top scorer of this team, and he was chosen best player of the tournament.
