Paraguay announces Eduardo Berizzo as new head coach

The Paraguayan Football Association made it official. The Argentine will be presented this Friday, February 22. 

In a statement posted on its website, the Paraguayan Football Association announced the Argentine Eduardo ‘Toto’ Berizzo as the new coach of the Albirroja team, after the departure last week of the Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio.

«They have successfully concluded the negotiations with Eduardo Berizzo Magnolo (49 years old), of Argentine nationality, who becomes the new coach of the beloved Albirroja» the organization explained in its statement.

The presentation of Berizzo in the position will be next Friday, February 22.

Before coming to the Paraguayan national team, Berizzo was assistant to the Argentine Marcelo Bielsa in the Chilean national team, then he led clubs like Estudiantes de la Plata (Argentina), O’Higgins (Chile), and the Spanish clubs Celta de Vigo, Sevilla and Athletic Club.

In the CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019, the Paraguay National Team, which is part of Group B, will debut against the invited Qatar, on Sunday, June 16 at the Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

The Guarani team has made its fans vibrate by winning the Copa América twice: in 1953 and 1979, so they will arrive in Brazil with the illusion of winning the continental tournament again.
