Brazil and Bolivia reach the top of their groups

  • Brazil leads Group A, while Bolivia and Colombia share the top spot in Group B.
  • Uruguay and Chile won their first matches in this edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer.

The 3rd round of the 2023 CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer featured close matches that left the group standings pretty even, which leaves qualifications to be decided in the final two rounds.

After their victory over Peru, Brazil dominates Group A with six points. Uruguay won their first match in the competition against Ecuador, while second place Argentina had the day off.

After beating Colombia, Bolivia shares the lead with the «Cafeteros» in Group B. Chile recorded their first three points by beating Venezuela and Paraguay was the team that rested this day.

– Group A –

  • Uruguay 6-5 Ecuador

Uruguay earned their first points in the tournament by defeating Ecuador 6-5 in a hard fought, even match, where anyone could have taken the win. With three points, the «Celeste» surpassed the «Tri» in the standings, as the Ecuadorians have not scored any points in three games so far.

The first period of the match ended in a two-way tie, with goals from Cedeño and Farías for Ecuador, and two from Santiago Miranda for Uruguay.

The «Celeste» ended the second period with a 4-3 advantage, courtesy of goals from Gastón Laduche and Miranda. Jorge Senge scored for the Ecuadorian team.

In the last part of the match, the «Tri» equalized thanks to a penalty taken by Nevarez. Miranda found the net again for Uruguay, the fourth of his personal tally, while Gonzalo Cazet increased the lead to 6-4.

The Ecuadorians narrowed the gap with another one from Cedeño, but it was not enough to tie the game.

 

  • Brazil 8-3 Peru

Brazil overcame Peru 8-3 in the 3rd round and took the lead in Group A with six points, one ahead of Argentina.

The «Canarinho» was superior in the first two periods, ending the second with a 4-3 advantage, but completely dominated the opponent in the third, opening a big advantage in the end.

Four players scored twice for the Brazilian team, Zé Lucas, Benjinha, Edson Hulk and Catarino. For Peru, the goals came through Velezmoro, Vidal and Alcantara.

 

– Group B –

  • Colombia 2-3 Bolivia

Bolivia bounced back after a tough loss to Paraguay in the second round and beat previously undefeated Colombia 3-2. They now share top spot in Group B with six points.

The Colombian team took the lead in the first period of the match with a goal by Esleider de Ávila. Dárlon Zarate scored the equalizer for Bolivia in the second period.

The final score was settled in the last period, with goals from Berthy Alpiri and Jhon Hurtado for Bolivia, and one from Morales for Colombia.

 

  • Chile 4-3 Venezuela

Chile got their first victory in the tournament, 4-3 against Venezuela, who experienced their second defeat in a row.

It was the Venezuelan team that started at the front, when Ramos found the net for «Vinotinto». The «Roja» managed to even the score before the end of the first period, thanks to a goal by Papic.

In the second half, Chile turned things around with a goal by Héctor Tobar, but Venezuela levelled the score again with a superb goal by José Semprun.

Chile regained their lead in the final period with a penalty that was converted by Benjamin Arce and a beautiful goal from Tobar. Goalkeeper Prado scored the last one for Venezuela.

The 4th round of the 2023 CONMEBOL Copa América Beach Soccer will be held on Wednesday, March 15.

In Group A, Brazil faces Ecuador and Peru plays against Argentina, while Uruguay rests.

In Group B, Chile meets Bolivia, while Venezuela faces Paraguay. Colombia will have a free day.
