  • Debinha scored both Brazilian goals on the occasion.

At 7:45pm on April 6, Wembley Stadium will host yet another historic match. England and Brazil are playing the Finalissima, a clash between the CONMEBOL Copa América and UEFA Euro champions, which could set a new attendance record for women’s football in the country, as tickets have been sold out since January.

The two teams have met three times before, with two wins for England (1-0 in a 2018 friendly, and 2-1 in 2019, in the SheBelieves Cup) and one for Brazil in the most recent encounter.

In October 2019, Brazil and England played a friendly match in Middlesbrough, England. After a goalless first half, the game was decided in the second. After the break, Tamires made a good play on the left and assisted Debinha, who headed it in to open the scoring.

Shortly after, Maria made a good move on the right and found the number 9 again, who scored the second goal. The English closed the gap in the final minutes, but the match ended in a 2-1 Brazilian win.

Debinha was also Brazil’s top scorer at CONMEBOL Copa América 2022 and scored the goal that secured the title in the final match, against Colombia. Unfortunately, the Brazilian forward got injured and will not be playing in the Finalissima.

Brazil arrived in London last Monday and have already had pre-game training sessions. Under the command of coach Pia Sundhage, the players have been studying their opponents and are confident they could bring the title to South America.

«We will certainly try avoid some of their great plays, which I think is the main thing. They use lots of crosses and have game speed, but on the other hand, we also have this very fast offensive side, we have strength in attack with a lot of speed. So, we do have to organize ourselves better defensively. I think this mix is what will make the difference so we can leave with a positive result in this game», observed forward Bia Zaneratto.
