Reigning champions Brazil look to challenge Rio Plata historic dominance

Brazil is looking to retain the CONMEBOL Copa America to challenge the historic dominance of Uruguay and Argentina
If you were to ask a South American football fan who has dominated the CONMEBOL Copa America in recent years they would have to, proudly or reluctantly, look to Brazil for the answer.
Since 1989 Brazil has made it all the way to 8 of the 13 editions of the competition finishing champions on 6 occasions. Argentina, Chile and Uruguay are their closest rivals with 2 titles each.

Recent yellow and green resurgence has challenged Argentine and Uruguayan claims to be undisputed kings of the CONMEBOL Copa America. The river Plate rivals exchanged title victories in a dominant period in the early decades of the tournament. Uruguay have won the CONMEBOL Copa America on 15 occasions while Argentina have been crowned champions 14 times.
Tite will be hoping to lead his side to back-to-back wins in 2021, eating in to the Uruguayan and Argentine advantage. In 2019, inspired by big Daniel Alves and Everton performances, Brazil finished the CONMEBOL Copa America undefeated lifting the trophy on home soil following a 3-1 final win against Peru.
Following this impressive and important victory, things didn’t go so smoothly for the South American giant in the second half of 2019. Brazil failed to win any of their 5 friendlies following the tournament; they drew against Colombia, Senegal and Nigeria and lost to Peru and Argentina. In the final game of the year they seemed to recapture some of their best form with a 3-0 win against South Korea.
After a prolonged suspension of international football as a result of the Covid-19, Brazil returned to competitive football with a renewed dominance. The Seleção kicked off their South American World Cup Qualifying campaign with a 5-0 win against Bolivia before securing a 4-2 victory against Peru, a 1-0 win against Venezuela and a 2-0 win against Uruguay. Things were well and truly back on track, with Brazil sitting comfortably at the top of the table.
Tite’s side debuts in CONMEBOL Copa América against Venezuela, on 14 June, at Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília, and will also challenge Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
