Two prolific strikers showed showed their quality on Monday's Group A clash between Chile and Uruguay. Vargas opened the scoring for Chile before Suárez equalized for Uruguay to ensure the points were shared. Chile are now unbeaten in 3 games with 5 points which puts them on route for progression while Uruguay secured their first point after 2 games. Uruguay failed to get a target on goal in the previous game against Argentina but started with intent, testing Bravo 3 times in the opening 10 minutes. De Arrascaeta made his first start of the tournament and had two efforts on goal before Cavani had a good headed chance. Despite early Argentine presure it was Chile who opened the scoring with a lightening quick counter. On 26 minutes Vargas fired an excellent finish from a tight angle following a sharp exchange of passing with the English born Ben Brereton. In the second half the pace slowed but Brereton again created a moment of danger with a powerful shot that drifted high and wide of the goal. Shortly after young forward Facundo Torres had a powerful effort from the edge of the area which was denied by a strong Bravo hand. Torres took the resulting corner which was headed on by Vecino for Suárez to score a classic poaches effort from close range. Uruguay return to action at 6 pm on Thursday (Brasilia time), against Bolivia, at Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá. Chile next play against Paraguay at 9 pm on Thursday at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília in their final game of the group stage.
