CONMEBOL Copa América™
The first chapter of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021 reached a dramatic conclusion on Monday. With wins for Argentina and Uruguay against Bolivia and Paraguay respectively, the group stage of the of the world's oldest national team competition came to a close. With 8 teams qualified (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Perú and Uruguay) the quarterfinals will get underway on Friday. All sides will dream of lifting the trophy and a review of the numbers so far suggest we are in for an exciting conclusion.

NUMBERS FROM THE COPA AMERICA GROUP PHASE

So far in the 20 games played there have been 46 goals, 21 in the first half and 25 in the second. On average there have been 2.3 goals per game with 90% scored inside the area and 10% from outside. Across multiple indicators, perhaps unsurprisingly, it is Argentine captain Leionel Messi who has been the leading performer. The legendary 10 has scored 3 goals, the most in the tournament, and has 2 assists, joint most with Neymar of Brazil. They have the most goals (10), fewest conceded (2) and the best goal difference (+8). Argentine Alejandro 'Papu' Gómez scored the quickest goal in this edition of the Copa America, giving Argentina the lead against Bolivia after just 6 minutes.
