Who Are the South Americans Who Can Win the Ballon d'Or?

Four players from the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ are among the nominees for the men's category.

  • Two players from Argentina, one from Uruguay, and one from Brazil are on the list of 30.
  • One coach and two U-21 players were also nominated.

On Monday, October 28, the 2024 Ballon d'Or will be awarded, and several South Americans are nominated across different categories of the prize.




Men's Ballon d'Or


Four players who participated in the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024™ are included in the list of 30: Vinícius Jr. (Real Madrid/Brazil), Federico Valverde (Real Madrid/Uruguay), and the tournament champions: Lautaro Martínez (Inter/Argentina), who was also the tournament's top scorer, and Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa/Argentina), who was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament. “Dibu” is also nominated for the Yashin Trophy, for Best Goalkeeper of the Year.




Best Men's Football Coach


Lionel Scaloni, the coach who won the last two CONMEBOL Copa América™ titles with Argentina, is nominated for Best Coach of the season.




Kopa Trophy


Two players from the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024™ are nominated for Best U-21 Player: Savinho (Manchester City/Brazil) and Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United/Argentina).




Women's Ballon d'Or


Three South Americans are on the list of 30 nominees for the award: Gabi Portilho (Corinthians/Brazil), Tarciane (Corinthians and Houston Dash/Brazil), and Mayra Martínez (Levante and Chelsea/Colombia).




Best Women's Football Coach


Arthur Elías is nominated for Best Coach of the Year. He leads the Brazilian national team, which will defend its title at the 2025 CONMEBOL Copa América™ in Ecuador, from July 12 to August 2.
