This Thursday, February 27, the Group Stage of the CONMEBOL Copa América Fútbol Playa 2025™ came to an end. Sixteen thrilling matches determined the four teams still in contention for the title.
They are: Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, and Brazil.
Colombia: 1st in Group A
Colombia was the last team to secure a semifinal spot. They had a bye in the first round, defeated Bolivia 7-6 in the second match, and then played a thriller against Uruguay, drawing 5-5 before losing on penalties. They later beat Ecuador 7-6 and, in the final group match, ended Chile’s unbeaten streak with a 3-2 victory. They aim to repeat their 2023 success when they qualified for their first World Cup.
Chile: 2nd in Group A
The host nation was the first team to qualify. They won their first two matches (3-1 against Bolivia and 5-4 against Ecuador) before their bye. Then, they fought hard to defeat Uruguay 3-2 and secure their place in the semifinals. They dream of playing in their first World Cup.
Paraguay: 1st in Group B
The Pynandi lost their first group match to Venezuela (7-5). After a bye in the second round, they were unstoppable: they defeated the last two finalists (2-1 against Argentina and 5-3 against Brazil) and closed the group stage with a 4-3 win over Peru. They missed the last World Cup but have already tasted Copa América glory, winning the title in 2022.
Brazil: 2nd in Group B
The reigning champion and tournament favorite had to fight until the last round to qualify. They secured victories in their first two matches (9-4 against Peru and 12-3 against Venezuela), had a bye, and then lost to Paraguay in the fourth round. In the final group match, they played brilliantly and defeated Argentina to secure second place.
When and how will the semifinals be played?
On Saturday, March 1, in the third match of the day (6:15 PM), Colombia will face Brazil. In the final match (8:00 PM), Chile will take on Paraguay.
The third-place match will be played on Sunday, March 2, at 5:30 PM, and the grand final will be held at 8:00 PM.
