Uruguay beats Chile to reach the semifinals of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina™
La Celeste overcame a tough challenge to climb the Group A table and secure a place in the next phase of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™.

- Wendy Carballo scored twice and won a penalty.
- La Roja will now play for fifth place.
Uruguay were efficient and determined in their 3-0 win over Chile this Thursday, July 24, securing a spot in the semifinals of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™.
Chile looked better early in the match at the Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda Stadium, managing the game well. Karen Araya came close with a free kick and a long-range shot at 9 and 21 minutes, the latter hitting the crossbar. Mary Valencia also had a good counterattack chance in the 38th minute, but couldn’t convert.
Uruguay struggled to create chances but kept believing in their qualification. Their breakthrough came when Carballo dribbled down the right, entered the box and was fouled by Pinilla. Pamela González calmly scored from the penalty spot at 39’.
That goal gave La Celeste the confidence to take control. In the second half, they didn’t look back. At 65’, Carballo finished a cross from Pizarro, and then at 73’ scored again after a brilliant through ball from Alaides Paz to make it 3-0.
Uruguay finished Group A in second place with 7 points and will now wait for the conclusion of Group B to know their semifinal opponent – Brazil currently leads that group. Chile (6 points) will play for fifth place, opponent to be confirmed.
