Match recap

The CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™ kicked off with a hard-fought clash between Ecuador and Uruguay. While the hosts looked to control the game, Uruguay focused on fast breaks to catch them off guard. The first big chance came from Bolaños, who turned and fired a shot that forced a solid save from Sánchez in the 7th minute.

Then came the goal — and it was Uruguay who struck first. In the 10th minute, La Celeste won the ball high up the pitch and found Belén Aquino, who cut inside and curled a brilliant left-footed shot past Morán.

Ecuador kept pushing, but struggled to break through Uruguay’s organized defense. In the 21st minute, Cedeño nearly equalized with a free-kick that struck the post. Ten minutes later, Barahona rose unmarked from a corner, but once again Sánchez made an impressive save.

The second half saw Uruguay take early control, earning a penalty after Pilar González was brought down. Pamela stepped up and converted it beautifully, extending the lead to 2-0.

That pushed Ecuador to chase the game and create chances. Sánchez made a big save on a close-range shot from Bolaños in the 66th minute, but moments later, the home crowd erupted. Off a free kick from the right, Correa headed the ball into her own net to cut the deficit.

The equalizer came soon after. Nicole Charcopa broke down the right and crossed for Emily Arias, who slotted it home with a low shot to make it 2-2. The comeback could have been complete, but Uruguay's goalkeeper stepped up again—denying Bolaños a third time and blocking a powerful strike from Karen Flores late in the match.
