- The trophy was present at Di María's tribute.
The seventh matchday of the South American World Cup Qualifiers featured two moments dedicated to major figures in South American football, who concluded their cycles with the two most successful teams in the history of the CONMEBOL Copa América™.
Di María was honored before Argentina vs. Chile
The 36-year-old Rosario native played his final match for the Argentine national team on July 14, in the Final of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ against Colombia. That trophy was present in Buenos Aires during the tribute to "Fideo," held before Argentina's match against Chile.
Di María was a CONMEBOL Copa América™ champion twice: in 2021 and 2024. He is the second Argentine with the most appearances in the tournament, with 28 matches, only behind Messi (39).
Luis Suárez played his final match for Uruguay
The "Pistolero" started in the 0-0 draw against Paraguay. Over 17 years, he played 143 matches and scored 69 goals, making him the all-time top scorer for Uruguay.
He won the CONMEBOL Copa América™ in his first edition in 2011, where he was also one of the top scorers and named the Best Player of the Tournament.
