CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™: Numbers and Records from the Year’s Greatest Tournament

Between June 20 and July 14, the 48th edition of the world’s oldest national team tournament was played, leaving behind unforgettable moments and records.

The 2024 season’s biggest event was the CONMEBOL Copa América™.The 48th edition of the world’s oldest national team tournament delivered unforgettable moments and stats worth remembering.


The United States, host once again


Following the successful 2016 edition, the North American nation hosted the CONMEBOL Copa América™ for the second time. A total of 32 matches were played across 14 stadiums nationwide, featuring 16 teams divided into four groups.


The opening match took place on June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where Argentina faced Canada. The Final was held on July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, featuring Argentina and Colombia.


Argentina: Back-to-back champions and the tournament’s most successful team


Under Lionel Scaloni's leadership, the Albiceleste secured its second consecutive title following its 2021 triumph. With this victory, Argentina reached 16 titles, surpassing Uruguay's 15.

Claudio Bravo: Longevity record


The Chilean goalkeeper started against Peru and Argentina in the tournament's latest edition. At over 41 years old, he became the oldest player to compete in the Copa América this century.


Bravo, a two-time champion (2015 and 2016), retired from professional football after the conclusion of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.

Canada: Historic debut in the tournament


Led by Jesse Marsch, the Canadian team reached the tournament's Semifinals and finished in fourth place. Among invited teams, only Mexico (runner-up in 1993) and Honduras (third place in 2001) achieved better results in their debut appearances.


Lionel Messi: Most appearances in CONMEBOL Copa América™ history


The Argentine superstar reached 39 matches played, surpassing Chile’s Sergio Livingstone, who had 34. Messi has participated in seven editions of the tournament, winning titles in the last two.

Rondón: Unforgettable goal and record for Venezuela


The forward scored an incredible 40-meter goal in the Quarterfinals draw against Canada. Rondón now leads Venezuela’s all-time Copa América stats with 7 goals and 21 matches played.

70 goals in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™


A total of 70 goals were scored in this edition. Colombia was the top-scoring team with 12 goals, followed by Argentina with 11. Lautaro Martínez was the tournament's top scorer, netting five goals.

James Rodríguez: Record-breaking assists. The Colombian midfielder provided six assists, setting a new record since this stat began being officially tracked in 2011.
