- The competition will feature 16 national teams for the second time in its history.
- It will take place in the North American summer of 2024.
The next CONMEBOL America Cup will be held in the USA, featuring CONMEBOL’s 10 South American national teams and six CONCACAF invitees. Both confederations will share the organization of the traditional South American tournament, to be held in mid-2024.
In 2016, the United States already hosted and competed in the special edition of the CONMEBOL Centennial America Cup, which also featured other CONCACAF teams such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Panama. Chile emerged victorious in the final match of that edition after a penalty shootout against Argentina, who was crowned champion in the last edition of the tournament, in 2021.
The organization of this tournament is part of a strategic collaboration agreement signed between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF to strengthen and develop football in both regions. The agreement also includes women’s national team competitions and a new club tournament.
For CONMEBOL, the agreement is expected to support its men's national teams during their preparation for the next World Cup, by means of an expanded America Cup with six elite Concacaf teams, played in the same region that will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In turn, CONCACAF will be in a position to offer more quality competitions for its men's national teams over the next two years.
It will be the 48th edition of the continent's most important competition, with 16 countries participating for the second time in history, the same number as in the 2016 edition, also held in the USA.
