  • They were down 0-3 at the start of the third period.
  • Bacian scored the final 5-4 goal with 14 seconds left.

Ecuador dominated much of the match. Especially in the first period, Viteri’s team was superior to Chile and went into the first break with a 2-0 lead thanks to a beautiful goal from Morales and a powerful shot from Lara.

The second period was more balanced, but Ecuador managed to extend its lead with a goal from Naranjo, making it 3-0 with only 12 minutes left to play.

The third period was spectacular, featuring six goals. In the first four minutes, four goals were scored—two from San Martín (both acrobatic moves) and one from Durán for Chile; Lara kept Ecuador’s lead alive.

In the last three minutes, Bacian became the hero of the afternoon, taking advantage of the Chilean goalkeepers' passing skills. Echeverría advanced to midfield and sent a cross that the No. 5 connected with a bicycle kick. Then, with just 14 seconds remaining, a long ball from Rodríguez was deflected by Bacian’s head, securing the victory in regulation time.

Ecuador will face Bolivia on matchday 3 in a clash between the two teams that have yet to earn points in the group. Chile, on the other hand, will have two days of rest, as they have a bye on Monday the 24th and no matches will be played on Tuesday the 25th. On Wednesday the 26th, they will face Uruguay.
