- They were down 3-5 with two minutes left and managed to equalize.
- Moline, the hero in the penalty shootout.
Uruguay had chances to win in regular time: they led 2-0 and later 3-1. However, with two minutes remaining, they were trailing 5-3. They managed to equalize 5-5 and secured victory in the penalty shootout, the first of its kind in the CONMEBOL Copa América Fútbol Playa 2025™.
La Celeste went into the first break leading by two goals thanks to strikes from Miranda and Maverino, who capitalized on a poor clearance from Colombia and scored directly from his own half without stopping the ball.
At the second break, they still held the lead at 3-2, as Iturriaga scored a header while Colombia responded with spectacular goals from Hernández and Ossa.
However, it seemed like they were going to lose as Colombia accelerated in the third period and took a 5-3 lead. Time was running out: Ortíz pounced on a rebound, and shortly after, Miranda struck a powerful shot to level the score. This forced extra time.
No goals were scored in extra time, and in the penalty shootout, after six attempts per team, with Wenceslao Moline emerging as the hero and Ortíz converting the decisive shot, Uruguay won 3-2.
La Celeste now has 3 points, trailing Chile, whom they will face on Wednesday, the 26th. Meanwhile, Colombia will look to bounce back the same day against Ecuador.
