Argentina defeats Peru and becomes the first team to reach the semifinals
With a last-minute goal, they secured a 1-0 win, claimed their third victory in the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™, and advanced to the next round.

- Yamila Rodríguez scored the Albiceleste’s only goal.
- Peru said goodbye to the tournament.
Argentina is the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina 2025™: they beat Peru 1-0, now have 9 points, and still have one match left in Group A against the host nation.
In the first half, Argentina dominated possession (60%) and had several chances but couldn’t break through Peru’s defense. Kishi Núñez was the most dangerous player for the Albiceleste.
In the second half, coach Germán Portanova’s substitutions deepened Argentina’s dominance. Yamila Rodríguez, Florencia Bonsegundo, and especially Agostina Holzheier constantly threatened Sánchez’s goal.
The match seemed headed for a draw, but once again—just like against Chile—Argentina found joy at the end: Yamila Rodríguez, the top scorer in the previous edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina™, scored a powerful header in the six-yard box to finally beat Maryory Sánchez.
In the last play of the match, Florencia Bonsegundo had the chance to double the lead from the penalty spot, but her shot hit the crossbar.
Already qualified, Argentina will wrap up Group A on Thursday, July 22, against Ecuador. Peru ends its tournament campaign with four losses and will be off in the final round.
