CONMEBOL Copa América™
  • The competition was first played in 1992, and has carried the official name CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal™ since 2003.

  • Brazil is the most successful team in the competition's history, winning 12 times, followed by Argentina with three triumphs.

Since its inaugural edition in 1992 the tournament has gone through several distinct phases, including name changes and alterations to its format. In its current guise it is considered the premier international competition in South American futsal and qualifies teams from the continent to the Futsal World Cup.

In the beginning: Campeonato Conmebol de Futsal / Taça América (1992–2000)

Between 1992 and 2000 the tournament was played under the name Campeonato CONMEBOL de Futsal (FIFA), the CONMEBOL Futsal Championship, and was later known as the Taça América de Futsal FIFA (FIFA Futsal America's Cup).

In 1992 CONMEBOL organized the first official futsal South American Championship in the Brazilian city of Aracaju. Four national teams were involced: Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Ecuador.

This tournament acted as a qualifying competition for the Futsal World Cup, as did the 1996 and 2000 editions, which kept the same name.

1995–1999: The Taça América period

Between 1995 and 1999 the tournament went ahead under the name FIFA Taça América de Futsal FIFA.

All of the editions were played in Brazil and did not qualify teams to other international tournaments, as they were a purely continental competition.

The Brazilian team dominated during this period, establishing its status as the region's premier futsal power.

The birth of the CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal™

From 2023 onwards South America's national teams began to rotate hosting duties. The CONMEBOL Copa América™ once more became a qualifying event for the Futsal World Cup and regained its prized spot on the continental futsal calendar.
