- This marks the sixth consecutive title for a Brazilian team in the tournament.
- Like in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, the champion featured a player from the CONMEBOL Copa América™.
Botafogo defeated Atlético Mineiro 3-1 this Saturday, November 30, in the Final held at the Más Monumental Stadium (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Luiz Henrique and Álex Telles (via penalty) scored for the winners in the first half. Eduardo Vargas (who represented Chile in the CONMEBOL Copa América™) pulled one back early in the second half, but Júnior Santos sealed the victory in stoppage time. Gregore was sent off for Botafogo early in the match.
This marks the first time the Rio de Janeiro team has won the continental tournament and the sixth consecutive year a Brazilian side has claimed the CONMEBOL Libertadores, following Flamengo (twice), Palmeiras (twice), and Fluminense.
Jefferson Savarino started for Botafogo, having played three matches for Venezuela during the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™, where La Vinotinto reached the Quarterfinals. In the CONMEBOL Libertadores, Savarino featured in 15 matches and scored four goals, three of which came in the knockout stages: one against Palmeiras in the Round of 16 and a brace against Peñarol in the Semifinals.
Thus, in both continental tournaments organized by CONMEBOL this year, the champions included at least one player who participated in the world’s oldest national team competition. In the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, Racing emerged victorious with Arias and Juan Fernando Quintero in their squad.
