  • The other eight editions were all won by Brazil.

In November 2006, the fifth edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina™ — then called the South American Women's Championship — was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Brazil had been the absolute powerhouse of the competition: not only had they won the previous four tournaments, but they had also won every single match.

Under the guidance of Carlos Borrello, Argentina arrived at the final match of the Final Stage against Brazil needing a win to qualify for the 2007 World Cup and the 2008 Olympic Games. Previously, they had drawn with Paraguay (0-0) and defeated Uruguay (2-0).

On November 26, Argentina beat Brazil 2-0 with goals from Eva González and Belén Potassa, ending Brazil’s unbeaten run and claiming their first continental title.

In the following four editions, Brazil reasserted their dominance, reaching a total of eight CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina™ titles.

Between July 12 and August 2, 2025, the tenth edition of this historic tournament will take place in Ecuador.
