Peru played three of the last five matches for third place. Colombia and Argentina, the winners of the last two editions.

On Saturday, July 13th, at the imposing Bank of America Stadium (with a capacity for 74,500 people), the match for third place of the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ will be played, the 48th edition of the oldest national team championship in the world.

In Argentina 2011, the match for third place pitted Peru (two-time champion of the tournament) against Venezuela, who had reached the semifinals of the tournament for the first time in their history. The Bicolor emerged victorious with a 4-1 win, thanks to a hat-trick by the legendary Paolo Guerrero, who could play his sixth CONMEBOL Copa América™ in the United States.

In Chile 2015, Peru was again in the match that defined the last member of the podium, although this time their coach was Ricardo Gareca. Paraguay, tactically led by Ramón Díaz, was their opponent. With another goal from Paolo Guerrero, the Andean team won 2-0 to achieve third place for the second consecutive time.

In the Copa Centenario United States 2016, there was a presence of Concacaf in the decisive match: the host team, with a great squad led by Clint Dempsey as their top scorer, reached the semifinals for the second time in their history. In the match that determined third place, they faced Colombia led by José Pekerman, who had reached the quarterfinals in the previous World Cup. It was a victory for the Cafeteros by 1-0, with a goal from Carlos Bacca.

The CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019™ had an interesting fact: the match for third place featured the same opponents who had played in the two previous finals (Argentina and Chile). It was Lionel Scaloni’s first official tournament as coach of the Albiceleste, who ended up defeating La Roja 2-1 with goals from Sergio Agüero and Paulo Dybala.

The last CONMEBOL Copa América™, held in Brazil in 2021, had Colombia and Peru facing off in the match for third place. It was a thrilling match, which ended in favor of the Cafeteros with a 3-2 score, thanks to a goal by Luis Díaz (top scorer of the tournament) in stoppage time.

Great stories have been experienced in the matches for third place of the CONMEBOL Copa América™. The Bank of America Stadium, located in Charlotte (North Carolina), is ready for the continuation of the tournament’s great history. Tickets are still available for those who want to attend.
