CONMEBOL Copa América™: records Paolo Guerrero could achieve

• The first time the Peruvian participated in the tournament was in 2007.
• At the age of 40, he has the potential to break four major records in the United States.

Paolo Guerrero is a legendary football player who has excelled at both club and international level. He has played in South America and Europe and has been the top scorer of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ three times. He is also the highest goal scorer in the history of the Peruvian national team, with a total of 40 goals. His latest goal was scored in the March 2024 FIFA friendly match against the Dominican Republic.

This year in the CONMEBOL Copa America United States 2024™, Paolo could break four new records.

1. If Paolo participates in the upcoming CONMEBOL Copa América™, he will equal the record set by José «Chemo» del Solar and Teodoro «Lolo» Fernández for the most appearances in the tournament by a Peruvian player. This will mark his sixth appearance in the tournament, having previously participated in the 2007, 2011, 2015, 2016, and 2019 editions.
2. He has already played 25 matches in this tournament. If he plays two more matches, he will reach the same number of appearances as Yoshimar Yotún, who has played 27. If he plays three more matches, he will break the record and become the Peruvian player with the most appearances in the history of the oldest national team’s tournament in the world.
3. Paolo has scored 14 goals in the tournament. By scoring just one more, he will tie Teodoro «Lolo» Fernández as the top Peruvian scorer in the CONMEBOL Copa América™.
4. If Guerrero scores three goals in the tournament, he will join Norberto Méndez (Argentinian) and Zizinho (Brazilian) as the top scorers in the competition’s over 100-year history.

During the last edition of the tournament, Brazil 2021, Paolo Guerrero was sidelined due to a knee injury. He was 37 years old at that time and it appeared to be his last opportunity to play in a competition where he had always excelled. He had previously achieved third place twice (in 2011 and 2015), as well as a runner-up position in 2019.
