  • Paolo equaled compatriot Yotún as the Peruvian player with the most appearances in the history of the CONMEBOL Copa América™.

The top scorer in Peru's history, Paolo Guerrero wrote another chapter in the history of his national team this Tuesday, June 25, in the match that opened the second round of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ against Canada. The legendary striker came on during the course of the game to equal Yoshimar Yotún as the player with the most appearances for the Bicolor in the history of the oldest national team tournament in the world: he's now reaches 27 appearances since 2004.

As in the match against Chile, the Peruvian's first match in this edition, Paolo Guerrero started the match on the bench to then be subbed on by Jorge Fossati later in the game. He replaced Gianluca Lapadula against the Canadians to make his second appearance in the United States. If he is also chosen for the match against Argentina in the last round of this Group Stage, he will have reached another historic record in South American football.

With six editions of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ under his belt, the striker had his best result in 2019, when he helped lead Peru to a runners-up finish in Brazil. At 40 years of age, the player can still become the country's top scorer in this competition.
