CONMEBOL Copa América™: Every Goal from the First Matchday

A review of what the first eight matches of the oldest national team tournament in the world brought us.

Between June 20 and 24, the first matchday of CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ was played: 15 goals were scored in 8 matches.




Group A


1.Julián Álvarez (Argentina): a threaded pass from Messi to MacAllister, who collided with the goalkeeper and passed the ball to the number 9, who scored the first goal of the tournament.


2.Lautaro Martínez (Argentina): at the end of the match against Canada, a brilliant collective play ended with Martínez facing the goalkeeper and, with his first touch, sent it into the net. Watch the goal




Group B


3. Jeremy Sarmiento (Ecuador): the midfielder took a Venezuelan clearance and, with the outside of his foot, scored the first goal of Group B.


4.Jhonder Cádiz (Venezuela): A quick throw-in, Rondón with a quick pass, and Cádiz used the inside of his foot to equalize against Ecuador.


5.Eduardo Bello (Venezuela): Rondón headed a great ball, Domínguez’s shot created a rebound, and the substitute Bello sealed Venezuela's comeback.


6.Gerardo Arteaga (Mexico): left-footed shot from the edge of the area to break the deadlock against Jamaica.

Group C


7. Christian Pulisic (United States): received from a corner, Pulisic wrapped the ball with his right foot, and placed it in the top corner. It was the fastest goal in the history of the United States in CONMEBOL Copa América™.


8. Folarin Balogun (United States): assisted by Pulisic, the forward shifted the ball to his left foot and sent it past Viscarra into the far post.


9. Maximiliano Araújo (Uruguay): Uruguay strung passes together, and from outside the area with his left foot, the midfielder scored the first against Panama.


10. Darwin Núñez (Uruguay): a cross from the right and the rebound fell to the Liverpool striker, who scored his first goal of the tournament with a left-footed shot.


11. Matías Viña (Uruguay): good combination between Flamengo players, with a cross from Nicolás de la Cruz for the defender’s header.


12. Michael Murillo (Panama): attacking from the right, the forward cut inside, opened up to his left foot, and placed it in the top corner.




Group D


13. Daniel Muñoz (Colombia): cross from the left by James Rodríguez, and a header to break Paraguay's deadlock.


14. Jefferson Lerma (Colombia): cross from the right by James Rodríguez and a header to extend the lead.


15. Julio Enciso (Paraguay): a cross from the left was utilized by the talented midfielder, who used his right foot to send the ball across the goalline.
