- The Ecuadorian is one of three CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ players in the French team.
- Lautaro Martínez started for Inter.
This Saturday, May 31, a historic moment took place at Munich’s Allianz Arena: for the first time, an Ecuadorian has won the UEFA Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter 5-0 with goals from Hakimi, Doué (twice), Kvaratskhelia, and Mayulu.
At just 23 years old, Willian Pacho became the first player from his country to lift the famous trophy. Only Antonio Valencia had previously reached the final of the prestigious European tournament, doing so with Manchester United in 2011.
Valencia and Estupiñán both won the UEFA Europa League — with Manchester United and Villarreal, respectively.
Pacho was in the starting XI against Inter, pairing in central defense with Brazilian Marquinhos. Both had featured in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™, as did fellow Brazilian Lucas Beraldo, who was on the bench.
On Inter’s side, Lautaro Martínez (champion and top scorer of the last CONMEBOL Copa América™) was also in the starting lineup.
