  • Canada and Uruguay will face off with a podium place at stake.

  • Argentina and Colombia will play on July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens Florida to determine the tournament winner and runner-up.

Canada and Uruguay’s impressive CONMEBOL Copa América™ campaigns come to a close on July 13 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina to determine who will earn a podium place at the end of the tournament. Both the Canadians and Uruguyan’s enjoyed a memorable run to the competition’s Semifinals, led by coaches Jesse Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa.

Canada have the chance to match Honduras's third place finish in 2001 as the second-best finish for an invitee team in their first appearance in the competition. After reaching the knockout stage by getting out of a tough Group A which included Peru, Chile and Argentina, Canada would then defeat Venezuela on penalties in the Quarterfinals to reach the Semifinals. While they couldn’t overcome the defending champions Argentina, the Concacaf team did their country proud and now have the chance to earn a third-place medal.

Their opponents Uruguay, also earned their spot in the third place game following a very impressive tournament. Bielsa’s La Celeste won every game in their Group Stage against Panama, Bolivia and the United States before defeating Brazil on penalties in the Quarterfinals. A hard-fought loss against Colombia in the Semifinal kept them out of the tournament’s last match, but they’ll still be eager to earn a podium and leave this edition with a victory.

Key Facts

  • Uruguay holds the advantage against Concacaf rivals in the CONMEBOL Copa América™ (W7 D4 L4). However, the Celeste is winless in its last three elimination matches against these opponents in Copa: 1-3 vs Mexico in the 2007 third-place match, 2-2 vs Honduras and loss in the penalty kicks in the 2001 third-place match and 1-2 vs Mexico in the 2001 semifinal.

  • Uruguay has participated in three matches for the third place in CONMEBOL Copa America™, registering different results each time: a win (2-1 vs Colombia in 2004), a draw (2-2 vs Honduras in 2001 with a loss in penalty kicks) and a loss (1-3 vs Mexico in 2007). The triumph in 2004 represents the second-best Uruguayan campaign in the Copa in the 21st century (bested only by the title in 2011).

  • Canada could become the third Concacaf country to achieve a positive result in the third-place match, after Mexico (W3 in 1997, 1999 and 2007) and Honduras (D1, winning on penalty kicks in 2001). If it does so, Canada would have the second-best campaign of a country outside of CONMEBOL in its Copa América™ debut edition, equaling Honduras in 2001 and being bested only by Mexico in 1993 (runners-up).

  • In the two CONMEBOL Copa América™ editions hosted by a Concacaf country, a team from the aforementioned confederation participated in the third-place match (USA in 2016, Canada in 2024). The USMNT lost to Colombia in 2016 (0-1).

  • Uruguay has the highest shots per match average among the teams that reached the semifinals of CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 (14.6). On the other hand, Canada has the lowest average among the four sides (9.8). Both teams registered similar shot accuracy during the tournament: 32.9% for the Uruguayans and 32.7% for the Canadians.
