This Saturday, the 16 teams participating in CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ were confirmed. Big names stand out on the lists, and there are South American legends who might play their last edition of the world's oldest national team tournament.
Luis Suárez
The historic top scorer of the Uruguayan national team is 37 years old, and this will be his fifth CONMEBOL Copa América™; he was champion in 2011. He currently plays for Inter Miami in MLS.
Alexis Sánchez
A two-time champion of the world's oldest national team tournament and the top scorer in La Roja's history, the Wonder Boy was chosen as the best player of the 2016 edition, also held in the United States. He has played in the tournament five times. He recently won the Serie A with Internazionale of Milan.
Claudio Bravo
An absolute South American legend, the Chilean goalkeeper arrives in the United States at 41 years old after a good season with Real Betis (Spain). He has played in six editions of the tournament and, like Alexis, was a champion in 2015 and 2016 (named the best goalkeeper of the tournament). He is in the Top 10 players with the most appearances in the CONMEBOL Copa América™.
James Rodríguez
The talented No. 10, who will turn 33 during the tournament, has played three times in CONMEBOL Copa América™ and achieved third place in 2016. He was the top scorer of the 2014 World Cup and scored the best goal of that tournament held in Brazil. He currently plays for São Paulo (Brazil).
Lionel Messi
The Argentine could become the player with the most appearances and the historic top scorer of the tournament in the edition to be held in the United States. He has played six times in the CONMEBOL Copa América™, with one title and three finals. He will turn 37 during the tournament. He plays, along with Suárez, for Inter Miami.
Ángel di María
The Rosario-born player, 36 years-old, scored the winning goal in the final against Brazil in the 2021 CONMEBOL Copa América™, ending a 28-year title drought for Argentina. He has played in two other finals and completed five editions of the tournament. He played last season with Benfica (Portugal).
Paolo Guerrero
At 40 years old, the forward - who is already the top scorer in the history of his national team - is seeking four more records at CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™. He was a runner-up in 2019, and has been the tournament's top scorer three times in the five tournaments he has played. Last season, he wore the colors of club team, César Vallejo (Peru).
The CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ is approaching, and several of its legends could have their last appearance in the centenary tournament.
