All the Results of the South American Qualifiers on Matchdays 7 and 8

Matchdays 7 and 8 on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been played.

  • Bolivia was the only team to win both of its matches.
  • Three new coaches made their debut.

The double matchdays of the South American Qualifiers were played, featuring the farewell of some heroes of the CONMEBOL Copa América™, the arrival of new coaches, and Bolivia breaking a 30-year streak.


Matchday 7


  • Bolivia 4-0 Venezuela (September 5, El Alto): in Óscar Villegas' debut as coach, La Verde secured its second victory in the Qualifiers. Ramiro Vaca, Carmelo Algarañaz, Terceros, and Monteiro were the goal scorers.
  • Argentina 3-0 Chile (September 5, Buenos Aires): the champion of the last CONMEBOL Copa América™ paraded the trophy through Buenos Aires and also paid tribute to Ángel Di María, who retired from the national team in the world's oldest national team tournament. In the 90 minutes, they dominated Gareca's team with goals from Mac Allister, Julián Álvarez, and Dybala.

  • Uruguay 0-0 Paraguay (September 6, Montevideo): Uruguay's all-time top scorer, Luis Suárez, said his farewell as a starter in Bielsa's team. On the Albirroja side, it was Gustavo Alfaro's debut.
  • Brazil 1-0 Ecuador (September 6, Curitiba): with a goal from Rodrygo, the Seleção secured a solid home victory. It was Sebastián Beccacece's debut as coach of the Tri.
  • Peru 1-1 Colombia (September 6, Lima): the tournament's most recent runner-up started losing in Lima after Alexander Callens' goal but managed to equalize at the end thanks to a strike from Luis Díaz.





Matchday 8


  • Colombia 1-2 Argentina (September 10, Barranquilla): in a rematch of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América final, the outcome went the other way; Néstor Lorenzo's team won 2-1 with goals from Mosquera and James Rodríguez, while Nicolás González had equalized for Argentina. Colombia remains the only undefeated team in the Qualifiers.
  • Venezuela 0-0 Uruguay (September 10, Maturín): there was no breakthrough between the Vinotinto and La Celeste, and both remain in World Cup qualification spots.
  • Paraguay 1-0 Brazil (September 10, Asunción): a huge victory for Albirroja, with a goal from Diego Gómez. Alfaro's team ended a solid double matchday, earning 4 points that help them climb the standings.
  • Chile-Bolivia (September 10, Santiago): La Verde enjoyed a major triumph, defeating Chile 2-1 and breaking a 31-year winless streak as visitors in the Qualifiers. They were also the only team to win both matches and moved closer to the fight for a spot in the 2026 World Cup. Carmelo Algarañaz and Terceros scored for Villegas' team, while Eduardo Vargas had leveled the game.
  • Ecuador 1-0 Peru (September 10, Quito): with a goal from Enner Valencia, the Tri secured its first win in the Beccacece era and moved up to fourth place in the standings.

When do the Qualifiers return?


Matchdays 9 and 10 of the South American Qualifiers on the road to the 2026 World Cup will take place between October 10 and 15.

CONMEBOL has 6 direct spots for the 2026 World Cup, while the seventh-placed team in the standings will compete in a playoff.
