Richard Ríos was one of the unforgettable players of the CONMEBOL Copa América USA 2024™.
Wearing the No. 6 jersey, with elegant footwork, defensive commitment, and being crucial in attack, Richard Ríos was one of Colombia’s standout players in their journey to the Final of the 48th edition of the world’s oldest national team tournament.
Even though Ríos played futsal until he was 18, he was scouted at the CONMEBOL U20 Futsal by Flamengo scouts. This happened in 2018, and by 2020 Ríos had made his debut for Flamengo’s senior team.
Mazatlán (Mexico) and Guarani (Brazil) were the stops in Ríos’ career before joining Palmeiras in 2023, where he thrived more than ever, earning him a call-up to Colombia’s national team. He made his debut on October 12th against Uruguay, in the World Cup Qualifiers.
With less than 10 games under Néstor Lorenzo’s team, he went to the USA as a starter and played in all 6 of Colombia’s matches in the tournament. He scored a goal against Panama in the 5-0 victory in the Quarterfinals.
