  • The Argentine coach leads Chile at this 48th edition of the continental tournament of nations.
  • Gareca achieves two milestones with La Roja in this CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™.

Fans who follow the CONMEBOL Copa America™ have become accustomed to seeing Ricardo Gareca as a frequent figure. And there is a good explanation for this, since the Argentine coach has historical records as a participant in the competition.

The first notable number is related to his long career in the oldest national team tournament in the world: 'El Tigre' led Peru in four editions of the continental competition – 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2021 – achieving a runner-up finish and two third places during his time with the Bicolor. With the dispute of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ in the United States, he reaches his fifth consecutive participation, now as coach of Chile, an achievement that only three other coaches have repeated in history: Guillermo Stábile, Luis Tirado and Óscar Tabárez.

The second number that the Argentine can be proud of is also related to CONMEBOL Copa América™. As coach during Chile's debut in 2024, precisely in a match against Peru, he becomes the 10th coach to participate in the tournament of nations in consecutive editions with different teams. Interestingly, his colleague Gustavo Alfaro, at the helm of Costa Rica, is also part of this group – he coached Ecuador in the 2021 edition, in Brazil.

With a point added in the goalless draw against Peru, 'El Tigre' Gareca and La Roja have an upcoming match on Tuesday 25, against current champion Argentina. The Group A match will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
