- The Rosario native scored in 6 out of the 7 editions he participated in.
- Only Zizinho had achieved this feat.
Lionel Messi will play another final with the Argentine national team after defeating Canada 2-0 in the Semifinals of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.
The Rosario native, who had already set the record for most appearances in the opening match, added another in this edition: alongside Zizinho, they are the only two players to have scored goals in six editions of the CONMEBOL Copa América™.
Messi scored in the editions of 2007, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024. The only exception was in 2011, which was also the only time Messi did not reach the semifinals of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Zizinho scored in the six editions held between 1942 and 1957. The Brazilian shares with Argentine Méndez the record for the most goals scored in the tournament: 17. Messi has scored 14 goals.
