CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ has come to an end and now the ten teams of the CONMEBOL Member Associations are preparing for the next challenges ahead. In particular, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with six rounds still to be played until the end of this year – two of them already allocated for the international window between September 2 and 10, 2024.
The clashes still have dates and times yet to be defined, but these are some highlights: in Round 7, Uruguay hosts Paraguay, Peru faces Colombia at home and Bolivia will go against Venezuela. Then, Colombia and Argentina replay the final of the 48th edition of CONMEBOL Copa América™, the Chilean and Bolivian teams duel and Ecuador and Peru, the Andean countries, face off at the home of La Tri – in addition to the game between neighbors Paraguay and Brazil.
This is the first time in history that South America will have six direct places at the next World Cup, in addition to the right to compete in the intercontinental play-offs for one more place (reserved for the final 7th place of the qualifiers). The Qualifiers are held in 18 rounds, with all teams playing against each other in two-legged matches, scheduled to end in September 2025.
In 2024, Rounds 9 and 10 (October 7-15) and Rounds 11 and 12 (November 11-19) are scheduled.
So far, the CONMEBOL Qualifiers standings are as follows:
- Qualification positions (1st to 6th): Argentina (15 points), Uruguay (13), Colombia (12), Venezuela (9), Ecuador (8), Brazil (7).
- Intercontinental Play-off: Paraguay (5 points).
- Positions 8th to 10th: Chile (5 points), Bolivia (3), Peru (2).
