After matchdays 15 and 16 of the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, Ecuador and Brazil have secured their qualification.
Both teams drew 0-0 on Matchday 15 and sealed their qualification on Matchday 16. Ecuador drew 0-0 again, this time against Peru, while Brazil earned their first win under Carlo Ancelotti by defeating Paraguay 1-0 with a goal from Vinícius.
For Brazil, the record continues: they remain the only team to have played in every FIFA World Cup since 1930. For Ecuador, this will be their fifth World Cup appearance.
Meanwhile, Argentina secured first place in the qualifiers after a 1-0 win over Chile, with a goal from Julián Álvarez.
Uruguay (24 pts), Paraguay (24 pts), and Colombia (22 pts) currently hold the remaining direct qualification spots, while Venezuela (18 pts) remains in playoff contention. Chile has been eliminated.
