Ecuador in the CONMEBOL Copa América™
Under Félix Sánchez’s management, La Tri competed in Group B alongside Venezuela, Mexico, and Jamaica. After a loss in their opening match against Venezuela (1-2), they bounced back with a victory over the Reggae Boyz (3-1) and a draw against Mexico (0-0), securing their spot in the Quarterfinals.
There, they faced Argentina, who emerged victorious in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw. It was the only match the Albiceleste, the eventual tournament champions, failed to win during the competition.
Ecuador in the Qualifiers
With Sebastián Beccacece taking over, the tricolor team had a strong run in the Qualifiers, achieving three wins, two draws, and one loss. The year ended with a significant away victory against Colombia, placing Ecuador third in the standings (19 points) and in a direct qualification spot for the 2026 World Cup.
Enner Valencia, Ecuador’s top scorer
The Internacional striker scored four goals this season: one against Bolivia in a friendly match ahead of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ and three in the Qualifiers against Peru, Bolivia again, and Colombia. He extended his record as Ecuador’s all-time leading scorer, now with 44 goals.
