The 48th edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ is getting very close. Sixteen teams will seek glory in the United States, and in this last window of friendlies and qualifiers, they began to prepare:
-Mexico 1-0 Bolivia, May 31, Soldier Field (Chicago, United States): The team led by Jaime Lozano setup three matches to prepare and test the players, and in the first of them, they won thanks to a goal from Efraín Álvarez. Luca Martínez Dupuy debuted for El Tri.
-Costa Rica 0-0 Uruguay, May 31, National Stadium of Costa Rica (San José, Costa Rica): A goalless draw in the clash between Bielsa and Alfaro, two Argentine coaches. Bielsa tested alternatives outside the usual starting lineup for the tournament.
-Mexico 0-4 Uruguay, June 5, Empower Field at Mile High (Denver, United States): With a stellar Darwin Núñez (scoring a hat trick), La Celeste thrashed in their last friendly before the CONMEBOL Copa América™. Facundo Pellistri scored the other goal.
-Netherlands 4-0 Canada, June 6, Feyenoord Stadium (Rotterdam, Netherlands): It was not the expected start for Jesse Marsch on the Canadian bench in the lead up to the CONMEBOL Copa América™. Depay, Frimpong, Weghorst, and Van Dijk scored for the Europeans.
-Peru 0-0 Paraguay, June 7, Monumental Stadium (Lima, Peru): A draw in the first friendly for both teams in the window. Both are looking to fine-tune details in the last match before the tournament: Fosatti's team will face El Salvador, while Garnero's team will play against Panama.
-United States 1-5 Colombia, June 8, FedEx Field (Maryland, United States): Néstor Lorenzo's unbeaten streak at the helm of the Colombians extended to 19 matches, continuing to build confidence ahead of the world's oldest national team tournament. Arias, Santos Borré, Ríos Montoya, Carrascal, and Sinisterra scored for Colombia, while Weah scored for the tournament hosts.
-Mexico 2-3 Brazil, June 8, Kyle Field (Texas, United States): In a true spectacle, the Seleção won in the end with a goal from young prospect Endrick in stoppage time, after Ayala had tied the match for Mexico, also in added time. Pereira, Martinelli, for Brazil, and Couto (own goal) for El Tri had scored previously.
-France 0-0 Canada, June 9, Matmut Atlantique Stadium (Bordeaux, France): A huge draw for Marsch's team against the World Cup runner-up. Positive feelings ahead of their first CONMEBOL Copa América™.
-Argentina 1-0 Ecuador, June 9, Soldier Field (Chicago, United States): The tournament's last champion achieved a narrow victory thanks to a goal from Ángel di María. Messi came on in the second half. Sánchez Bas tested Sarmiento as a false 9.
CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers
-Panama: Achieved two victories at the start of Group D for the qualifiers. On June 6, they defeated Guyana 2-0 with goals from Cristian Jesús Martínez and Rodríguez Francis, while on the 9th, they won 3-1 against Montserrat, with goals from Welch, Fajardo, and Rodríguez Francis himself. Simon had temporarily equalized for the opponent. They are leading the group along with Nicaragua.
-Jamaica: A double victory for the Reggae Boyz to top Group E, along with Guatemala. In the first match, they defeated the Dominican Republic 1-0 with a goal from Shamar Nicholson, and Nicholson scored a double for the 3-2 win against Dominica. Dixon scored the other goal for Jamaica, while Javid George and Troy Jules scored in the last ten minutes.
