- Eight of them are Argentine.
- Scaloni has been in charge the longest.
A major story shook the football world: Carlo Ancelotti will have his first experience coaching a national team when he takes over Brazil, debuting in the Qualifiers in June.
Among the remaining 9 CONMEBOL teams, there’s a unique trend: 8 of them are led by Argentine coaches. They are Lionel Scaloni (Argentina), Ricardo Gareca (Chile), Sebastián Beccacece (Ecuador), Néstor Lorenzo (Colombia), Gustavo Alfaro (Paraguay), Óscar Ibañez (Peru), Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay), and Fernando Batista (Venezuela).
Aside from Ancelotti, the only other exception is Bolivia, now coached by local manager Óscar Villegas, who took over after the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™.
Lionel Scaloni has held his position the longest: he took over in 2018 and has since won a World Cup (2022), a Finalissima (2022), and two CONMEBOL Copa América™ titles (2021 and 2024).
The next set of World Cup Qualifier matches will be played between June 5 and 10, and more teams could secure their spots. So far, Argentina has already qualified. The top six teams qualify directly for the World Cup, while the seventh enters a playoff.
