Uruguay, Colombia and Paraguay qualified for the 2026 World Cup

With their Matchday 17 results, they secured their ticket to the World Cup.

  • They join Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil, who had already qualified.
  • The playoff spot will be decided on the final matchday.

Matchday 17 of the South American Qualifiers confirmed three more teams for the 2026 World Cup, to be played in the United States, Mexico and Canada.


Uruguay defeated Peru 3-0 with goals from Rodrigo Aguirre, De Arrascaeta and Federico Viñas, reaching 27 points and temporarily sitting in third place in the standings. It’s La Celeste’s fifth consecutive World Cup, since South Africa 2010.

Colombia also won big: a 3-0 victory against Bolivia, thanks to goals from James Rodríguez, Jhon Córdoba and Juan Fernando Quintero. They climbed to fifth place (25 points) and will play their seventh World Cup in history.

Paraguay also celebrated in style: La Albirroja drew 0-0 against Ecuador and will return to a World Cup after 16 years. Gustavo Alfaro’s team reached 25 points and finished in sixth place.

The final matchday will decide who earns the playoff spot. Venezuela (18 points) and Bolivia (17) are fighting for it. La Vinotinto hosts Colombia, while La Verde will face Brazil at home.
