  • Valeria Rojas scored a goal from goal to goal.
  • Shamila González and Suárez, the scorers for La Celeste.

Uruguay took the court with a chance to fight for a spot in the semifinals. To achieve that, they needed a victory with a good goal difference and for Colombia to lose later against Argentina.

When La Celeste saw they couldn’t break through Chile’s defense, they opted for the goalkeeper/player strategy (Fátima Villar), which opened up more opportunities for La Roja. The only goal of the first half came when there was no one defending Uruguay’s goal, and Valeria Rojas scored from goal to goal.

The start of the second half brought renewed energy for Lamanna’s team: Shamila González took advantage of a defensive miscue from Chile and equalized the match. Four minutes later, a brilliant play by Naiara Ferrari ended with Suárez pushing the ball in for the 2-1.

Chile finished fourth in the group and will play for 7th place on Saturday. Uruguay must wait for the match between Argentina and Colombia to determine whether they finish second (advancing to the semifinals) or third (playing for fifth place).
