  • Both teams contested the finals of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024™ and the CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal 2026™, with Brazil winning both matches 2-1.
  • The winner will face Spain or Portugal in the final on November 8.

Two South American powerhouses are set to meet again in a decisive match. Brazil and Argentina will contest the second semifinal of the CONMEBOL UEFA Finalissima Futsal 2026 on Friday, November 6, at Arena Niterói, with a place in the final at stake. It will be another chapter in a rivalry that has featured two recent encounters for international titles: the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024™ and the CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal 2026™, both won by the Brazilian national team.

Brazil Arrive as World and South American Champions

The Brazilian national team will compete in the CONMEBOL UEFA Finalissima Futsal 2026 after claiming two major titles in recent years.

In 2024, the Seleção won the FIFA Futsal World Cup™ in Uzbekistan after defeating Argentina 2-1 in the final held in Tashkent. Ferrão and Rafael scored for the Brazilians, while Matías Rosa pulled one back for La Albiceleste.

That triumph marked Brazil's sixth world title, extending their record as the most successful national team in the competition's history. They had previously lifted the trophy in 1989, 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2012.

The match also marked a milestone for CONMEBOL futsal: it was the first FIFA Futsal World Cup final contested by two South American national teams.

In February 2026, the Canarinha celebrated another victory over their traditional rivals, this time in the CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal™ final in Luque, Paraguay.

The match once again ended 2-1, with the Brazilian side scoring the decisive goal with approximately one minute remaining.

With both the world and South American titles to their name, the hosts will look to add another international trophy in front of their home supporters.

Argentina Aim to Turn the Tables After Recent Finals

La Albiceleste will arrive in Niterói having reached two major international finals against their traditional rivals.

At the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024™, the Argentine national team took part in a historic all-South American final but finished as runners-up following a 2-1 defeat.

Two years later, the teams met again with a title on the line, this time at the CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal 2026™.

Argentina once again fell just short of the trophy in a closely contested match decided by a single goal in the closing moments.

Despite the defeat, their continental runners-up finish secured qualification for the Finalissima.

This will be La Albiceleste's second appearance in the intercontinental tournament. At the inaugural edition, held in Buenos Aires in 2022, Argentina finished fourth after losing to Paraguay in the third-place match.

Now, the Argentine side will have the opportunity to improve on that result and reach the competition's final for the first time.

Two Recent Finals and Another Opportunity

The South American rivalry returns to the Finalissima with two very recent encounters in title-deciding matches.

FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024™: The Canarinha defeated La Albiceleste 2-1 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to claim their sixth world title.

CONMEBOL Copa América Futsal 2026™: Brazil once again prevailed 2-1 in Luque, Paraguay, to become South American champions.

Both finals were decided by just one goal.

In Niterói, the Argentine national team will seek to reverse those recent results, while the hosts will aim to extend their winning run in decisive encounters.

This time, the prize will not be the title itself, but a place in the CONMEBOL UEFA Finalissima Futsal 2026 final.

Spain and Portugal Will Decide the Other Finalist

The action on Friday, November 6, will begin with the first semifinal between Spain and Portugal at 6:30 PM at Arena Niterói.

The match will bring together the two national teams that contested the final of the inaugural Finalissima in 2022, when Portugal claimed the title after winning the penalty shootout.

Four years later, the European sides will meet again in Brazil, although Spain hold the advantage from their most recent major encounter.

In February 2026, the Spanish national team defeated Portugal 5-3 in the UEFA Futsal EURO final to claim their eighth European title.

Portugal, meanwhile, will be looking to defend the crown they won in Buenos Aires.

The winner of this semifinal will face Brazil or Argentina in the final on Sunday, November 8.

The Finalissima title decider will therefore once again feature a South American team against a European opponent, in a tournament bringing together the finalists of CONMEBOL's and UEFA's leading continental futsal competitions.
