- Ended Colombia’s unbeaten streak in the Qualifiers.
- Achieved a winning streak not seen since 1993.
The start of Óscar Villegas’ tenure as head coach of the Bolivian national team has been a dream: La Verde defeated Colombia 1-0 with a goal by Miguel Terceros, securing their third victory in as many matches under the new manager.
Bolivia had previously beaten Venezuela 4-0 at home and Chile 2-1 away during the double-header in September.
The victory over Colombia, who were the only unbeaten team left in the Qualifiers, moves La Verde to 12 points and places them in contention for qualification to the 2026 World Cup.
The Bolivian national team hadn’t strung together three consecutive wins in the Qualifiers since 1993, when they won five matches in a row:
- 18/07/1993 Venezuela 1 - 7 Bolivia
- 25/07/1993 Bolivia 2 - 0 Brazil
- 08/08/1993 Bolivia 3 - 1 Uruguay
- 15/08/1993 Bolivia 1 - 0 Ecuador
- 22/08/1993 Bolivia 7 - 0 Venezuela
It was precisely that Qualifying campaign that allowed Bolivia to play in their last World Cup, in 1994.
The last time Bolivia had a streak of three consecutive wins across all matches was in 2017, with victories over Argentina 2-0 (Qualifiers) and Nicaragua 1-0 and 3-2 (both friendlies).
