The 2019 edition will be more than special with the return of CONMEBOL Copa América to Brazil after 30 years. In these three decades, the competition developed and reached high levels of organization and dispute, attracting the interest of the entire world. Some of the best and most recognized athletes of the world soccer are South American and will play in this 46th edition of the tournament, between June 14 and July 7, 2019.
In addition to the 10 South American countries members of CONMEBOL: Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, there will be two members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), who will participate as guests. Football fans will have the opportunity to enjoy three FIFA World Cup champions congregated in the field.
The 26 matches will be distributed in 6 stadiums: Mineirão Stadium (Belo Horizonte), Arena do Grêmio (Porto Alegre), Maracanã Stadium (Rio de Janeiro), Fonte Nova Arena (Salvador), Corinthians Arena and Morumbi Stadium (São Paulo).
The main men’s soccer tournament between teams from South America will be held for the fifth time in Brazil and organized by the Local Organizing Committee – Copa América Brazil 2019 and CONMEBOL. The event returns in the year that marks 100 years of the first edition on Brazilian soil, 1919. Brazil also hosted in 1922, 1949 and 1989.
Local Organizing Committee (COL)
The planning format was designed considering the Brazilian experience in the realization of major sporting events, added to the interest of CONMEBOL to build a legacy of knowledge that can be used by future organizers of the next editions of the Copa América, or even of other events of the entity.
Strategically, the planning adopted as a basis the following premises:
• Use the heritage of stadiums and infrastructure from the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
• Maximize the use of the stadiums through the implementation of a shared operating model in which the LOC can carry out the CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019 games, without totally compromising the regular activities of the chosen stadiums, promoting the reduction of the operating costs.
• Take advantage of the experience and knowledge of the professionals who already operate in the stadiums, as well as service providers that are operating in the stadium.
For the Local Organizing Committee, holding the CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019 represents a unique opportunity to adopt a sporting event planning and delivery model that is simple, effective and easy to replicate for future CONMEBOL tournaments.
