  • Following his goal against Jamaica in La Vinotinto’s last Group Stage match, Rondon is tied as Venezuela's all-time scorer in the competition

  • In the match against the Concacaf nation, he also tied the record for the most appearances by a Venezuelan in the tournament.

A special night for Venezuela was even a bit more special for their prolific striker, Salomon Rondon. La Vinotinto secured their third straight win in this edition of the tournament with a 3-0 win over Jamaica, and are headed to the Quarterfinals. While Venezuela made history by winning three straight games in the tournament for the first time, their Striker wrote his name into the record books as well.

The 34-year-old from Caracas tied the Venezuelan record for the most goals in the competition (6), following his goal against the Reggae Boyz on Sunday night and now shares the record with Jose Luis Dolgetta. After starting the match, he also tied the record for the most appearances (20), a feat he now shares with Venezuelan legend Juan Arango.

Rondon’s goal was his second of the 2024 edition of the tournament, the first coming in the match prior against Mexico. His strike from the penalty spot ensured his country would go home with all three points, as Venezuela won 1-0.

In the Quarterfinals against Canada on July 5 at AT&T Stadium, Rondon will have the chance to claim both records outright. A goal will give him the Venezuelan goalscoring record and if he steps onto the field, he’ll have the appearance record.

The party continues for La Vinotino, who will have the chance to make even more history as the tournament progresses.
