Great Players Who've Just Scored Their First Goal At CONMEBOL Copa América™

Julián Álvarez, Christian Pulisic, Darwin Núñez, and Julio Enciso scored for the first time in the world's oldest national team tournament.

  • The first match day of CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ brought some notable new goal-scorers to its history books.
  • Three of them listed here have already played in the tournament before: Julián Álvarez, Julio Enciso and Christian Pulisic.

Eight matches of CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ were played between June 20 and 24 and during these games, four great players managed to score a goal for the first time in the world's oldest national team tournament.

Champion of the 2021 edition, the forward who emerged from River Plate did not scored in his first edition played. He was only 21 years old and only came off the bench in the match against Bolivia during the Group Stage.


In 2024, he scored Argentina's first goal in the tournament's opening match against Canada.




Christian Pulisic, USA vs Bolivia

The United States' number 10 played in the 2016 edition at just 17 years old. He played three matches, coming off the bench in all three, including the third-place match against Colombia.


In 2024, just over 2 minutes had passed when he scored a screamer in his country's opening match against Bolivia. It was the fastest goal in the history of the United States at CONMEBOL Copa América™.

Darwin Nunez, Uruguay vs Panama

The Liverpool forward missed the 2021 edition due to injury and made his debut in the tournament in 2024.


Against Panama, in the closing stages of the match, he capitalized on a rebound and scored with his left foot to make it 2-0 for Uruguay, who would go on to win 3-1.




Julio Enciso, Colombia vs Paraguay

The Paraguayan starlet made his national team debut at 17 at CONMEBOL Copa América 2021™, coming on late against Bolivia in the Group Stage. He would later come on against Peru in the Quarter-Finals.


At the 2024 edition, he is one of the key players for the team led by Daniel Garnero, and the Brighton midfielder scored the consolation goal in the 2-1 loss to Colombia.
